The story is narrated primarily by young Jim Hawkins, who works at his family’s inn, the Admiral Benbow. Jim’s life changes dramatically when a gruff old sailor named Billy Bones arrives at the inn and later dies, leaving behind a mysterious sea chest.
Inside, Jim discovers a map to the legendary buried treasure of the infamous pirate Captain Flint. This discovery ignites an expedition, financed by local gentry Squire Trelawney and Dr. Livesey, who charter a ship called the Hispaniola.
